Like many, I find myself still pondering this election. While I’ve accepted that I’ll never fully know why Trump won, I’ve remained interested in how he won. As an engineer, I decided to tackle this question the only way I know how - by looking at the data. I chose to examine the election results and registration statistics from Pennsylvania as a small, tractable case study, that’s still interesting as a swing state and might be representative of larger trends.

This website came about because I wanted to update my personal website and I had some time on my hands. After reflection, I decided to build a static site and host it with GitHub Pages. In retrospect, the process was mostly straightforward, but there were a few points that weren’t obvious to me at the time. This post details how I built the site, what I tools I ended up using, and how the site is hosted, for free!

I recently finished up a month of travel. In addition to seeing great friends and beautiful places, I used my travels as an opportunity to learn how to use a DSLR. I mean really learn, beyond just the point-and-shoot basics we all know. So I borrowed an old Nikon D40 from a friend and sort of just dove in. Turns out, it’s not very difficult to go from n00b to novice, and it’s even easier to take a lot of photos…but that’s a story for another day.
